EPDM Sealing Washers with Bonded Metal Ring
The EPDM sealing washer is the component that decides whether a fastening point stays dry for twenty years. Vulcanized under heat and pressure onto a zinc-plated steel or aluminum ring, the EPDM compound compresses under the screw head and seals against the sheet surface — blocking rainwater, condensation and corrosion at the most vulnerable point of the roof. Supplied loose or pre-assembled onto roofing screws.

Features and Benefits
- Hot-vulcanized bonding of rubber to metal backing — no delamination, no washer spin during driving
- EPDM compound stays elastic from -40 °C to +120 °C and resists UV, ozone and acid rain
- Metal ring spreads the clamp load so the seal forms evenly around the fastener
- Available in iron/EPDM and aluminum/EPDM constructions for different panel materials
- Wide diameter range covers roofing screws from #8 to #14 and M5-M8 bolts
Typical Applications
- Weather-tight sealing of metal roofing and cladding screws
- Sealing fastenings on fiberglass, polycarbonate and translucent sheet
- Sandwich panel and gutter connections
- General outdoor fastening where a durable seal is required
Model Specifications
| Type | Outer Diameter | Aperture | Metal Backing | Service Temperature |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard EPDM | 10-16 mm | 4.0-6.0 mm | Zinc-plated steel | -40 °C to +120 °C |
| Large EPDM | 16-30 mm | 5.0-10.0 mm | Steel or aluminum | -40 °C to +120 °C |
Material and Performance
- Rubber: EPDM terpolymer, shore A 70 ± 5, with anti-aging package for rooftop service
- Bonding: hot-melt vulcanization process — adhesion survives thermal cycling that unglues ordinary washers
- Backing options: zinc-plated steel for steel panels; aluminum to avoid galvanic corrosion against aluminum sheet
- Lot testing: hardness, elasticity and bond strength sampled per production batch
Installation Guidelines
- Match the washer aperture to the screw shank — a loose fit leaks, an oversized one tears on driving.
- Drive until the rubber shows a uniform compression ring; the metal backing must not touch the panel.
- On aluminum panels, choose the aluminum-backed washer to prevent galvanic corrosion at the joint.
- Do not reuse a compressed washer during maintenance work — replace it with a new one.
- Store washers away from oils and solvents that swell the EPDM compound.
Why Source from BuildFastener
We bond our own washers rather than buying generic stock, so bond quality and compound consistency are under our control. Washers can be supplied loose, pre-assembled on screws, or packed to your kitting requirements. Contact us for samples and diameter recommendations.
